Google Introduces Fun Filters and Masks in Meet App Update
Google has unveiled an update for its video calling application, Meet, aimed at enhancing the user experience during personal calls.
Enhanced Features for Android and iOS
The latest update to the Meet app for Android and iOS introduces an array of filters and masks, adding a playful element to video calls. Users can access these features by tapping the sparkle button located at the bottom right corner of their video call screen, bringing up a menu of Effects options.
Diverse Effects Options
In addition to the existing Blur effects and backgrounds available to enterprise and education accounts, users can now explore new “Styles” and “Filters” within the Effects menu. Under Styles, users can apply lens flare effects and color overlays to their video feed, while the Filters option offers a variety of cute animal masks and virtual accessories to adorn their face and head.
Seamless Integration
These new effects are readily accessible and functional across both Android and iOS devices. Even when initiating a meeting through Gmail instead of the Meet app itself, users can still enjoy the full range of available effects.
Expanding Meet’s Appeal
Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance Meet reflect its ambition to position the platform as a formidable competitor to established video calling services like Zoom. By introducing features tailored for personal use, Google aims to attract more users for informal calls with friends and family.
Transition from Duo to Meet
There is speculation that Google may eventually phase out its Duo app in favor of Meet, consolidating its video calling offerings. The incorporation of masks and filters from Duo’s library into Meet’s latest update further suggests a strategic alignment between the two platforms, potentially paving the way for a seamless transition in the future.
