Orxa Mantis: A New Challenger in the Performance Electric Bike Market
Orxa Energies, a Bengaluru-based EV startup, has introduced its inaugural electric bike, the Mantis, in India. Positioned within the electric performance bikes segment, the Orxa Mantis aims to compete directly with the premium Ultraviolette F77 electric bike.
Pricing and Availability
Priced at ₹3.6 lakh ex-showroom, the Orxa Mantis falls just below the base variant of the Ultraviolette F77, which is priced at ₹3.8 lakh ex-showroom. Scheduled to launch in Bengaluru in April 2024, the Mantis will subsequently roll out in other cities. Bookings for the bike have commenced on the company’s website.
Features of the Orxa Mantis
Sporting a sleek and sporty design akin to the Ultraviolette F77, the Orxa Mantis is available in two color options – Urban Black and Jungle Grey. The standout feature of the Mantis is its mid-mounted liquid-cooled BLDC motor, claimed to be India’s first.
Performance Comparison
The Mantis boasts a power output of 28 hp and 93 Nm of peak torque, while the F77 offers 36.2 hp and 85 Nm of peak torque. With a top speed of 135 km/h and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, the Mantis competes closely with the F77, which achieves a top speed of 140 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.
Battery and Charging
An essential aspect of any electric bike is its battery pack. The Mantis is equipped with an 8.9 kWh battery pack, providing a claimed range of 221 km on a single charge. Comparatively, the F77 offers a 7.1 kWh battery with a claimed range of 206 km. The Mantis can be charged from 0 to 80% in 5 hours using the standard 1.3 kW charger included with the bike. Alternatively, users can opt for the 3.3 kW charger, which reduces the charging time to 2.5 hours.
Additional Features
The Orxa Mantis features a 5-inch TFT display with the company’s proprietary Linux-based OS, adding a touch of modern technology to its rider interface.
With its competitive pricing, impressive performance specifications, and innovative features, the Orxa Mantis emerges as a formidable contender in the performance electric bike market, poised to challenge established players like the Ultraviolette F77.
