Redefining Office Spaces: Nippon Shinyaku-Koku Office by Reiichi Ikeda Design
The Nippon Shinyaku-Koku Office, crafted by Reiichi Ikeda Design, redefines the concept of a corporate workspace, blending functionality with aesthetic innovation.
Context and Commemoration
Situated near Nishioji station, this office space was designed as part of Nippon Shinyaku’s headquarters in Kyoto Prefecture. Commemorating the company’s 100th anniversary, the project commenced in late 2019, culminating in its completion during the summer of 2021.
Integrating Interior with Exterior
Acknowledging modern architectural trends, where buildings are no longer solely front-facing, the design team focused on seamlessly connecting the interior with the exterior. This was achieved by introducing V-shaped glass walls and extending outdoor floor tiles into the interior, blurring the boundary between inside and outside.
Evolving Aesthetics
The exterior of the building, evolving over time to a reddish-brown hue, symbolizes the company’s progressive journey. This dynamic change in color, visible from both inside and outside, encapsulates the continuous evolution and growth of Nippon Shinyaku.
Embracing Tradition and Innovation
Drawing inspiration from the sukiya style of building, the design incorporates elements of “tsuzukiai,” blending steel frames reminiscent of Japanese paper sliding doors with skeleton beams. These elements not only ensure privacy and sound insulation but also create an open, inviting space that encourages a harmonious blend of work and relaxation.
